Thollon
les Memises
also called
"Le Balcon du Léman" is a Savoyard village
on a plateau on the French side of Lake Geneva. It is situated
at 1000 meters altitude. The
origin farmer village borders at the lake and at the Memises
mountain range. From the village there are beautiful views to
lake Geneva, to the Jura, the Swiss Alps and to the Swiss cities
Lausanne and Montreux.
The
apartment is situated nearby the centre of the village, about
300 meters from a supermarket, bakery, newspaper kiosk,
a cash dispenser, restaurants and post-office. The tourist office,
the cable-car, shops, pubs and more restaurants are only a few
hundred meters from the apartment. In winter a free bus shuttle
drives in the village. The nearest bus stop is within 70 meters
from the apartment.
In
winter Thollon les Memises offers approximately 50 kilometres
of ski runs (16 slopes) and 15 lifts (1 cable-car, 3 chair-lifts
and 11 ski-lifts). The skiing ranges from 1000 to 2000 meters.
The slopes are mostly north-facing and the resort has snow making
on all principle runs so the skiing is good even in milder winters.

For
children from 8 months up to 6 years there is a nursery present
at the village. The "Jardin des Neiges" at the top
of the cable-car at 1600 meters altitude is available for children
from 4 years old to practice skiing.
For snowboarding a snowpark with half-pipe is available and
for cross country skiing a trail of 6 kilometres is present
at the Memises plateau (1600 m). Together with a liaison to
other communes in the Pays de Gavot, a circuit of about 50 kilometres
of slopes is available. Pays de Gavot is a plateau mostly containing
pastures and woods at an altitude of 900 meters, south orientated from Evian les Bains.
Summery
some 120 kms of mountain biking trails are available for rides
through natural pastures and forest. Thollon
itself is a beautiful walking area with marvellous views over
Lake Geneva. The GR 5 (a 2250 kms walking route, begins at the
North Sea and ends at the Cote d' Azure (Nice)) passes Thollon
les Memises.
During summer the cable-car will be used to bring hikers and
paragliders at an altitude of 1600 meters. From the end station
it's only a few hundred meters walking to the summit Pic des
Memises (1674 meters). Furthermore public tennis courts are
present in the village, you can fish, there is school for horse
riding and a school for paragliding.
